Good news for budding entrepreneurs: Kickstarter, the crowd-sourced funding website, is coming to the UK in just a few months. So us Brits will be able to see our pet projects made real, providing we get enough backing, of course.
What will your first project be?
The website made the announcement via its Twitter feed:
“People in the UK will be able to launch projects on Kickstarter starting this autumn! More info soon! <3 <3 <3″
Some enterprising Brits have already used the site, however, by registering using a US business account. The UK launch will negate such faffing.
The site currently uses Amazon Payments, which means you need a US bank account to sign up. It’s not clear what payment method it’ll use when it launches in the UK, but it shouldn’t be long until we find out.
Since the site launched in 2009, it’s funded thousands of projects, with some raising more than $1 million.
There are rival crowd-sourced funding sites in the UK, but Kickstarter is by far the most well-known.
It could also rival Dragon’s Den, because for a start you won’t have to face public humiliation if you haven’t really thought through your idea. And you won’t have to walk up some stairs into a hot room to be faced by a firing squad of smug business bods.
