Canon’s EOS-1D C is an absolute beast of a digital SLR, capable of recording 4K footage. Said footage has leaked out, and you can take a look for yourself right now. And it’s stunning.

4K has a resolution of around 4,000 pixels horizontally, which is around double that of HD. So click through if you’re curious how that’ll look.

The Canon EOS-1D C isn’t out yet, which means that the footage is from an early prototype. The clip shows a quick tour around what looks like a mudbank, so the scenery isn’t too exciting, but it is amazingly detailed. If you’re thinking of upgrading to a (ridiculously expensive) pro-grade camera, you should check it out.

The footage has been scaled down to 1,920×1080 to be viewable on Vimeo, but you can snaffle a short clip of raw 4k footage from the link here.

EOSHD.com, who got their hands on the footage, claim it’s “not near what true 4K should look like,” but it is a massive step up from what other DSLRs are capable of.

It is from a prototype camera as well, so the quality will no doubt improve for the models that go on sale:

The Canon EOS-1D C is expected to cost around $12-15,000 (£7,600-9,600) when it goes on sale, so it’s one for the pros only. Would you like to get your hands on one? Let us know.
