The Asus Nexus 7 can’t come soon enough; the tablet market is still far too one-sided for our liking. Android offerings are numerous and plentiful, but there’s nothing, arguably aside from the Kindle Fire, that’s really taking any serious swipes at the iPad. Google still needs a Nexus tablet. Lucky then, that that’s exactly what it’s getting, as confirmed by none other than Google itself…
If you believe your rumours, Asus is set to be the manufacturer making the Nexus tablet. The Asus Nexus 7 is the name we’ve all been going on, owing to various sources and the inclination that it’ll be 7-inches in size.
But now we’ve got something a bit more concrete: a couple of pictures of ceiling tiles. No; hang on… Stick with us. The pics above have been uploaded to a Picasa album belonging to Somit Bh’s Google+ account. Who? Somit Bh’s account has various ties to Google through people in Google+ Circles and the like, but it’s the meta data of the pics that’s interesting.
Nexus tablet: 7 Things we need to see
Taken on June 7th and 13th, the 1280 x 960 pics are geotagged to Google building 44 on the company’s Mountain View campus. Not only that, but they’re accredited to none other than the camera found in the Asus Nexus 7.
It’s not proof-positive, but there’s enough here and from previous leaks to suggest that we’re not far off the right trail. Google’s I/O conference is scheduled for the end of the month, and it’s expected to launch the tablet in question there, along with the next iteration of Android, codenamed Jellybean.
