The Sony Xperia Miro? Sorry folks, that Sony Facebook teaser that went live earlier this week was not for the all-singing, all-dancing Xperia GX super phone. Enough people “Liked” the teaser for Sony to whip the covers off, and instead we’ve got a mid-range Android smartphone doubtless destined for Pay As You Go.
It’s not all bad though: based on the official video, it looks like there’s some new, tight integration with Facebook on a par with Apple’s iOS 6.
The Sony Xperia Miro is a basic 3.5-inch touchscreen phone with a five megapixel camera, and many of the same design cues as its bigger brothers, the Xperia P and Xperia U – it comes in silver, black, pink and gold iterations. Happily, it comes with Android 4.0 out of the box, which is a relief as Sony’s been having some unfortunate hiccups with upgrading phones lately.
Perhaps of more interest is some apparent Facebook integration. In fact, if you look in the video below, Facebook galleries appear to have been built into the phone itself. For fans of the social network, that tight integration won’t be so much welcome as necessary: on Monday night, Apple debuted a new version of its iOS operating system for iPhone and iPad which closely weaves the service into its software.
No word yet on availability, but the Sony Xperia Miro is headed to Europe. We’ve contacted Sony for more details and will update when we hear back.
