Classic bullet-time shooter Max Payne is headed for selected Android devices this Friday. Get ready for lots of frantic gunplay, followed by Max looking all sad.

Max Payne was the first game to nick the ‘bullet time’ effect popularised by The Matrix and while not perfect in its original PC incarnation it did have a fair stab at the Hong Kong action genre, giving you the opportunity to have a little bullet ballet from the comfort of your sofa. Max Payne Mobile brought the slo-mo diving experience to iOS back in April and now Rockstar has lined up an Android version that has been given an HD makeover.

The Android release, which hits the Google Play store this Friday, has new high-resolution textures and HD-ready graphics as well as support for USB and Bluetooth controllers (on supported devices). Sadly, as with Rockstar’s last big release on Android – Grand Theft Auto 3 – not all Androids are created equal. As we reported at the time, this is likely to frustrate many potential gamers.

Confirmed as compatible so far are the Motorola Razr, Razr Maxx, Motorola Atrix, Motorola Photon, Motorola Droid Bionic, HTC Rezound, HTC One X, HTC One S, HTC Evo 3D, HTC Sensation, HTC Droid Incredible 2, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung S2, Samsung Galaxy R, Sony Xperia Play, Sony Xperia S and Sony Walkman Z Series Media Player, plus a host of tablets. This is a much better showing that GTA 3′s launch so hopefully this means Rockstar is getting the knack of the Android biz.
