iOS 6 was only announced yesterday – and it’s already been jailbroken. While Apple’s new mobile operating system doesn’t launch worldwide until the autumn, it’s been in developers’ hands for a few hours – and that’s all the time some hackers need to circumvent the security.
The jailbreak has been performed by veteran iOS hacker MuscleNerd, who announced on Twitter that he had performed a tethered jailbreak on a fourth generation iPod touch running iOS 6.
Don’t get too excited just yet: not only will you not be able to get your hands on iOS 6 for at least a couple of months, but there’s still a lot of work to go on the jailbreak. MuscleNerd says a beta release is some way off, and an untethered jailbreak (one which doesn’t require your iPhone to be plugged into a computer when you restart it – a practical one for sensible people, in other words) may be even further away.
Still, it’s undoubtedly good news for those into modding their iPhones, iPads and iPod touches – and the gap between now and iOS 6′s launch gives hackers a nice big window to get a proper release ready.
