A new teaser website has gone live today for Angry Birds Heikki, a new game from the Finnish developer Rovio. It’s not just a twist on the standard Angry Birds format, by the looks of things though: it appears to be an Angry Birds racing game.
Head on over to heikki.angrybirds.com and you’ll see this teaser image, with a few links to share the page and a link to Rovio’s website and privacy policy. A quick look in the page source however brings up this phrase: “Where’s Heikki’s F1 racing helmet gone?! The Angry Birds have a hunch!”
Heikki refers to Finnish F1 driver Heikki Kovalainen, and points to an Angry Birds themed racing game of some form emerging on 18 June 2012.
The move is surprising, as Rovio has only just released Angry Birds Space, and recently announced its next non-Angry Birds title, Amazing Alex, which sees you trying to set up all sorts of elaborate Rube Goldberg machines.

It’s even more surprising when you consider that a “karting” type game is an incredible cliche: started by Nintendo with Mario Kart, we’ve seen almost every cutesy gaming character appear in a silly racing game, from Sonic to Crash Bandicoot and the cast of South Park.
Of course, it’s possible that it’ll be nothing more than a sponsored tie-in of some form, rather than a full-blown follow up. Regardless, we’ll be keeping an eye on Angry Birds Heikki as the story develops: in the meantime, let us know your thoughts on the prospect in the comments below.
