Want that new iPad? Yeah, it’s pretty swish. Thing is, it’s still not cheap. The cheapest one will set you back £399, which is a fair old bit of cash. If that’s beyond your budget, but you still want to get on the tablet bandwagon, what are you gonna do? Fret not: there’s a new player in town, and you can get two for the price of one iPad.
This is the Disgo Tablet 8104, a 10.1-inch budget Android tablet that comes out of the box offering Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), Mini-HDMI output, a front-facing camera, a five-hour battery and expandable storage.
Budget iPad 2: The obvious choice?
That’s all in a box for £150. That’s got your ears up, hasn’t it? Yeah, thing is, this is the paragraph where we layer on the caveats. The biggest of which is the processor power. The catchily-named Tablet 8104 only sports a 1.2 GHz Boxchip Cortex A8 ARM processor with 512MB of RAM. Poor.
And, while the storage is expandable, it’s only 4GB to start with. Disgo claims that “This specification allows users to experience quality technology, but without the costs associated with well known tablet manufacturers.” A nicely worded way of saying: “it’s cheap, deal with it.”
And for £150, you’re laughing. Right, here’s the Sophie’s Choice of tablet questions: Two of these, or one Apple iPad? Or, (wildcard) the £169 BlackBerry PlayBook.
