This is probably the Samsung Galaxy S3. Yeah – it’s a weird mix of emotions, isn’t it? When you build up to seeing something like this over a period of many months, you half expect it to melt your face off with its intense beauty. And then it looks like a normal phone.

What’s going on, you ask? A reputable Vietnamese site has seemingly stumbled across Samsung’s latest flagship in the mother of all leak videos. Read on for the full details.

So, Galaxy S3, what have you got for us? Vietnamese site Tinhte has a track record of being bang on the money with these sorts of things, and if you take their word for it, we’re looking at a Samsung Galaxy S3 with a monstrous quad-core 1.4 GHz processor with 1GB of RAM and a 4.6-inch display with a 720 x 1184 resolution. That gifts the display a pixel density of 320 PPI – almost indistinguishable from the iPhone 4S’s 326 PPI Retina Display.

How Samsung can beat the best of Android

On top of that there’s an 8-Megapixel camera, NFC tech and 16GB of built in storage – plus the option to expand via MicroSD – and, of course, Android 4.0 out of the box. It’s good on paper, but there’s just something a little bit underwhelming about the phone caught on video reel. Assuming this is the real Galaxy S3 we’ve enough faith in Samsung to say that we’re sure it’ll be impressive in the hand, but the video just makes it look like a bit of an incremental upgrade:

…But then that’s the nature of meeting your heroes, we suppose. Samsung is due to launch the Galaxy S3 at an event on May 3rd. We’ll be there to bring you al the news. What are your thoughts? Is this an impressive enough update to fight off whatever Apple launches later in the year? Let us know below.

    yay for private video :/

I am as underwhelmed as I expected to be. I would prefer a bigger and better battery to a quad core chip, and a 5″ screen ( in the same chassis ) and a better quality feel without all the plastic. Apart from that my SG2 is a fantastic phone. Will not buy this phone and will wait for the next round of upgrades.

No 5″ screen thanks, for a flagship phone it needs to be a fill all phone, so 4.5 would be the best screen size, that would make the phone dimensions a ok size.

5″ screen can be fitted in the S2 chassis , or just about . As long as the chassis is no bigger lets fit the biggest possible

Since it is a ‘private video’ and we are not allowed to view it, I guess it is two phones mating?

Congratulations, they must have only given you guys permission to watch that video… We can’t see it unless they make it public ): that’s how private videos work on youtube.

This is the S3 given by Samsung for testing, so some of its specks might not be final yet.

      You know this how ???

      • Sschrupp

As reported by a ton of other sources online. It’s been stated all over the place that Samsung sent out mock copies of the phone that contain the same technology but just in a false casing. So the real phone may look nothing like what you see there besides the screen and performance.

  • Nexus-saddened

Does it still have the shonky streak-prone Amoled hd 720 display that December’s Galaxy Nexus had, or have they perfected proper rgb pixels at 720 res now? (many argued Galaxy Nexus’ dpi wasn’t retina-display res either as it shared subpixels)

    • Anonymous

I think they’ve probably cracked RGB again, similar to how the GS2′s display isn’t Pentile but the Nexus S’ was.
