Well, well. We all knew that a Call of Duty game would be coming this year, but we didn’t realise that the game would be announced this side of E3 in June. If a blurry-cam spy shot is to be believed, the big reveal is just around the corner. What’s the situation? Read on for the full details.

What you’re looking at above is a leaked poster for a Call of Duty launch event. We’re not talking ‘release date’ here, but May 2nd looks set to be the date that Activision officially announces the existence of the next title in the series.

Why Call of Duty needs a serious shake-up

At the bottom of the poster, which Activision is refusing to comment on (and which we couldn’t fit in here), sits Activision’s logo alongside Treyarch’s.

Why’s that relevant? Because the Call of Duty series drifts back and forth every other year between two development houses: Infinity Ward is behind the Modern Combat series, while Treyarch is the team that brought us Black Ops.

So, assuming we choose to believe that this poster is the real deal, it looks as though we’re looking at Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. We’ll have to wait until next month to know for sure, but to us, the ‘return for debriefing’ tag line points to a direct sequel rather than a new direction. Your thoughts?
