Nope. Let’s be honest and upfront: no Bond game past, present or future will ever beat the brilliance of the original Goldeneye game for the N64. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a spot open for a runner-up. Could Activision’s newly announced, ambitious Bond title be that game? Read on for the details.

007 Legends takes a novel approach to a Bond game. Instead of completely making up a plot, or trying to pad out the action from one existing movie, the game will weave the story lines of six existing Bond films – including the upcoming Skyfall – into one cohesive narrative. That’s a tall order for a series with little in the way of consistency.

“To honor 50 years of the world’s top secret agent, 007 Legends offers a collection of his most famed moments in the smartest and most treacherous Bond game yet,” said Activision’s Executive VP David Oxford.

Sky picks up the rights to every Bond movie

“Creating a video game storyline that ties together six popular, yet very different, Bond movie narratives can be challenging, but together with EON Productions, our developer Eurocom, has pulled it off to create an homage that we think will be a unique and highly entertaining Bond video game.”

007 Legends will be out in the Autumn for Xbox 360 and PS3, and will boast local four-player action. Oh, and just as is still the case the classic game it’ll be living up to, no one’s allowed to be Oddjob.
