The Samsung Galaxy S3 is still unofficial, but with its predecessor rapidly approaching its first birthday, a launch can’t be far off. It should come as no surprise to find then that a Korean publication has spilled the beans on what we can expect: and confirming previous rumours, that would include a killer screen.
According to DDaily, the Samsung Galaxy S3 will sport a huge 4.65-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen with a 1280×720 resolution. Nothing new in that, of course – the Samsung Galaxy Nexus lays claim to the very same – but this report says the Samsung Galaxy S3 will be the first of its type without a Pentile display.
Pentile displays use one fewer sub-pixels than normal: in the case of the Galaxy Nexus, that means that though its display is technically a 720p HD screen, in practice it’s clearly not as sharp as rivals’, such as HTC’s fantastic One X.
But a Samsung Galaxy S3 without this problem could once again set the high watermark for smartphone touchscreens: HTC’s screen is great, but still suffers from the usual LCD problem that blacks simply don’t look all that black.
