This week Sony launched the PS Vita in the UK, its fight against the onslaught of mobile gaming from the likes of the iPhone and Android, as well as a big, noisy warning shot in the general direction of the Nintendo 3DS. Analysts are predicting big sales, but will it turn the handheld gaming tide?

Strategy Analytics in the US is predicting monster sales figures for the PS Vita. It claims that Sony will ship 12.4 million units this year alone, which will truly launch the handheld into a much better position in the market than the PSP ever held.

    It depends on whether their (initial) targeted market, Gamers [18-34] is large and dedicated enough to make it a success!  Even when I was in this age group (and a gamer) I was never interested enough to buy a PSP. Besides, I never like their over-balanced proprietary lock-in tech!
