The tumbling price of consumer tech has hit a new low point today; UK supermarket giant Asda is selling a webcam for less than the price of a bag of chips. Want to go face-to-face with a long-lost friend? Here’s the budget way to do it.
The Asda webcam, which it claims looks like Disney’s WALL-E (yeah, a bit, but not enough to shout about), boasts a pretty measly 0.3-Megapixel sensor.
That’s pretty poor, but Asda’s being bold enough to admit that that’s not exactly HD: “Obviously at this price the picture resolution won’t be amazing, but one customer’s lack of resolution is another’s ‘cosmetic filter’,” says the store.

Not exactly up to Logitech’s standards, then. Still, at just £2.93, who can argue? That’s less than nine rolls of Andrex Natural Pebble loo roll (£4.68), cheaper than a pack of Asda Simply Cumberland Sausages (£3) and more affordable than a bag of McCain Home Fries (£3.25).
Video quality aside, Asda‘s offering might be the perfect purchase for anyone who’s mum says they don’t see them enough, or for keeping in touch with distant relatives. Any takers? Let us know your thoughts below.
