Mobile World Congress doesn’t start until next week, but at this rate there won’t be anything left to announce: meet the LG L7 phone, a 4.7-inch screen phone running Android 4.0: that’s right, Ice Cream Sandwich. For once, LG’s announced an Android phone running the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system. Has it finally got its act together?

The flagship in its new Optimus L-series of Android phones, the LG L7 has appeared ahead of MWC by way of the company’s Flickr page and a leaked press release. Specs are few and far between: all we know is that it’s going on sale in Europe by the end of June, it’s black, polished, and uses a physical central home button.

From the image above however, the LG L7 (pictured right) does show us how LG has skinned Ice Cream Sandwich: the stock home screen launcher has been replaced with LG’s standard S-Class UI with a four icon dock, but the search bar present at the top of every home screen appears to remain intact.

LG has become notorious amongst Android fans for belated Android updates and launching with out of date Android builds compared to its arch rival Samsung – its flagship Optimus 3D launched last June with Android 2.2, more than half a year after 2.3 Gingerbread was released. The LG L7 appears to suggest that the South Korean gadget giant has finally gotten its act together.

Alongside the LG L7, LG is launching the 4-inch LG L5, and the 3.2-inch LG Optimus L3. Don’t get too excited about the latter: we’re still confirming with LG, but it appears to be running Android 2.3. We’ll keep you posted with details as they come in.

Such a poor design. Especially after the likes of LG Optimus Black.

To be honest, the Optimus Black wasn’t up to a great deal either. I’m not really sure why LG can’t pull itself together, the hardware inside its phones is top notch. I use an Optimus 3D regularly, and it is disgustingly fast – just incredibly out of date. Usually, it’s keen to compete with Samsung, but it seems to have given up with smartphones.
