It’s about that time that the iPad 3 rumour mill begins to whir so fast that it destroys itself; we’re just a week or so away from the official iPad 3 unveiling. Today a source claims to have take a shot of the iPad 3’s logic board. Does the processor point to a mere incremental power increase?

If you know your iPad lore, you’ll be expecting an upgrade to the iPad’s brains in the shape of an ‘A6’ processor. The iPads of yore have had A4 and A5 chips respectively. The general consensus has been that the A6 processor would ensure that the iPad 3 has quad-core capabilities.

The shot above, if real, would mean that that’s not the case. We don’t know the specifics, but an ‘A5X’ chip can only point to a minor increase in power.

If that’s true, it’ll coincide with a sub-sect of rumour mongers who claim that the iPad 3 will be a modest refresh – a stepping stone on the way to a far greater iPad 4, launched later this year.

Would that be enough to see off the range of Android and Windows 8 tablets coming this year? Read our rumour roundup linked above and let us know your thoughts below.
