We’ve all got those thoughts that plague us – that keep us up at night. Those points of intrigue that you can never stop wondering about. You might want to see what happens if you strap a rocket to your cat… or build a boat out of bananas. Some people have simpler dreams: they just want to glue a million LEDs onto a snowboarder…
The snowboarder in question is pro William Hughes, who’s agreed to be filmmaker Jacob Sutton’s plaything for a really ace short film. Sutton employed the expertise of John Spatcher, who built a suit fitted with tiny LED bulbs that light up the otherwise pitch-black slopes of Tignes.
The effect is pretty striking. “I was really drawn to the idea of a lone character made of light surfing through darkness. I’ve always been excited by unusual ways of lighting things, so it seemed like an exciting idea to make the subject of the film the only light source,” says Sutton.
Hughes says of the escapade: “Filming in the suit was the most surreal thing I’ve done in 20 years of snowboarding.” We’re not surprised. Check out the video below to see the night run for yourself:
