Sky Go, the mobile app that lets you take your Sky TV content with you, is finally about to land on Android here in the UK. The app, which will be available to download in just a weeks’ time, is a massive boon to the platform, but what’s taken so long?
The Sky Go app will appear in the Android Market on February 22nd (or maybe even slightly before that). That’s according to word from Tech Radar, who’s had the date whispered into their ear by sources close to Sky.
Sky Go for Android will pack in all the same options and features as in the iOS version, which means that anyone with a Sky account can access on-demand content from Sky over 3G or WiFi.

Sky initially said that the app may make an appearance before Christmas 2011. That didn’t quite pan out, and apparently the delay has been due to a huge amount of testing spanning several months. Fragmentation problems? Possibly. Ah well; it’s sorted now. There is one massive caveat to this, though…
According to the report, Sky Go for Android will initially only be available for Samsung and HTC handsets as these are deemed to be ‘the most popular’. The compatible handsets are as follows: HTC Desire, HTC Desire S, HTC Desire HD, HTC Incredible S, HTC Sensation, Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung Galaxy S2.
It’s a start, at least. Alas, there’s no word on tablet compatibility. Do you own a different Android phone and feel a bit let down? Let us know below.
