HTC is expected to launch a Spotify-rivaling music streaming service at Mobile World Congress, in partnership with its music partner Beats. Is it going to be a killer HTC exclusive, or is it just another service to add to many other also-rans?
The HTC music streaming service will be built up in partnership with Beats and the uber-powerful Jimmy Iovine, who’ll be aiming to get all the key music labels on board. Iovine said the following about the deal between Beats and HTC last year:
“Getting Beats audio into HTC phones is one of the first things we’re going to do…We are going to be in business with HTC and they’re going to help us and we’re going to help them in every way they can.
Can HTC actually make use of the Playstation Suite?
“And you’ll see Beats audio in just about every phone or tablet they want it to be in, but they know what we’ve built and respect the brand and will help us continue to innovate and push Beats further.”
It seems as though the HTC Sensation XL and XE, the two current Beats-branded phones, are just the very beginning for a far further reaching partnership, then. If HTC plays this one right, it could make use of its $300 million investment to create a genuinely top-drawer draw for customers.
Having a decent Spotify-style streaming service baked into handsets could very well be a master stroke.
