Rockstar has let slip that it could have several sequels in the pipeline for historic cop-em-up L.A. Noire. The company’s official blog reveals that it’s not closed the door on the franchise, despite a tumultuous relationship with its co-developer Team Bondi. Will L.A. Noire land on the Xbox 720? Read on for the full details.
Rockstar’s blog states that “while there won’t be any more DLC or additional content for the current release of L.A. Noire (we’re all too busy working on Max Payne 3, GTA V and other games to come), don’t count out the possibility of a new game in the L.A. Noire franchise in the future.”
It goes on to say: “We simply have not decided anything. We’re all very pleased with how that game turned out and are considering what the future may hold for L.A. Noire as a series.”
PS4 and Xbox 720 landing this year at E3
Now… L.A. Noire was developed chiefly by Team Bondi, the sister company of Depth Analysis, who own the MotionScan technology used to map actor’s faces for the game. Team Bondi has since disbanded (Rockstar said they were all fairly mental and needed some serious reigning in, which caused its investors to close the place down), but Rockstar has said that it wants to use MotionScan in future games. That bridge still exists.
The company is known for taking its time with sequels, though. Ignoring the massive amount of time it takes to make a GTA game, you can look to Red Dead Redemption as a prime example. The original, Red Dead Revolver, came out some six years prior and on a different generation of consoles. The same goes for Max Payne 3, which is still under development nine years after Max Payne 2’s release.
L.A. Noire: Everything you need to know
Given the time-consuming nature of MotionScanning all the actors involved, alongside the fact that the original L.A. Noire took six years to develop, you can almost certainly expect L.A. Noire 2 to land on the next generation of games consoles, rather than the PS3 and Xbox 360. By that point, you can expect the face-capping graphics to be out of this world.
