LG has released a sneak teaser trailer for an upcoming handset named the LG Optimus Vu. The handset boasts a huge 5-inch screen a la the Samsung Galaxy Note, but it’s unique shape flicks a V to Samsung’s design skills. Read on for the specs.

The LG Optimus Vu has a 5-inch display, a 1.5GHz Qualcomm processor, an 8-megapixel camera, 1GB RAM, 8GB ROM and the now pretty outdated Android 2.3. So far, so Galaxy Note. But look at that screen…

Is the Samsung Galaxy Note about to be superseded?

Unlike pretty much every other handset launched over the past few years, the Optimus Vu’s display boasts an aspect ratio of 4:3, rather than 16:9. This lends it a really square shape unlike any other handset available?

Ok LG, we’ll hear you out: why? Well, even though you’ll be watching movies on the Vu with some fairly chunky letter-boxing, LG seems to think that it’s far easier to hold a squarer device when it starts to challenge the 5-inch mark.

Anyone who’s haled the Samsung Galaxy Note will agree that it’s an enormous handset. Can making it wider and stubbier really help? Answers on a postcard.
