It’s a match made in heaven: Minecraft and Lego are embarking on a set of projects together, having attracted more than 10,000 votes on Lego’s CUUSOO site – the home of future Lego projects. Is there a Lego-themed version of the smash hit online game coming?

“Until now, the project has been in the Lego Review – a stage before product development begins where a LEGO Jury evaluates the idea’s feasibility as a product and makes a decision,” says the official blog from Minecraft creator Mojang. But now the overwhelming amount of votes has given the project the official go-ahead.

Minecraft creator working on secret sequel?

Exactly what the partnership will throw up remains a close secret, but in the first instance it’s likely to be Minecraft-inspired sets. However, what’s got us excited is a Lego spill-over into online gaming.

Lego says it’s working on “a concept that celebrates the best aspects of building with the Lego system and in Minecraft and we can’t wait to show it to you.” If you ask us, porting Lego into the Minecraft engine seems a lot easier than the other way round, as is the case with this Minecraft Zelda mod.

Minecraft is heavily inspired by the creative joy that Lego brings, so a fresh, Lego-licensed version of the game would presumably provide the best of both worlds. Not to mention it would sell millions.
