Well, well. We all knew that Resident Evil 6 was in the works thanks to multiple rumours and hearsay, but now Capcom has come right out and confirmed it – the next installment of the zombie-destroying franchise is due in November.

But the announcement hasn’t just ended with a release date, though. Far from it: Resident Evil 6 has dropped into view with a 3 minute trailer packed with in-game footage and cutscenes.

So what can we learn from it? Not an awful lot. The Resident Evil series is notorious for having some of the worst dialogue in the gaming world and this somewhat mismatched trailer only adds to that reputation.

Resident Evil 5 review for PS3 Move

Put simply: we can’t figure out what the hell’s going on. At one point the US president turns into a zombie, some of the action takes place in China and Leon’s involved, but other than that it seems to swing all over the place.

Watch the trailer yourself and let us know if you can piece together some sort of sense from it all. Oh, and watch out for the hilariously bombastic voice saying ‘Resident Evil 6‘ right at the end. Least. Scary. Thing. Ever.

I’m a huge fan of the Resident Evil games since the first on Playstation 1. I even bought the original version on my PS3 a while back just to play the game again. However, its becoming the most Cliche’ ridden, Hollywood blockbuster type of game that I hate to see, bar possibly in the Modern Warfare series (Which is probably why so many people buy it, its so nonsense its enjoyable.)

They’re running so short of possible story lines for their increasingly narrowing narrative. Oh no, they’re trapped again! Oh no, there are thousands upon thousands of genetically mutated zombie’s ready to decapitate anything that comes within 10 metres of you! Oh no, your on your own! I mean come on, its becoming a little repetitive. What made the first 2 games incredible was the brilliant new ‘Survival Horror’ genre they created. You were literally there to scrape through alive, not kill everything in sight. Now we have some sort of FPS/RPG/Survival game mashed into one. I don’t even think Capcom understand what they are trying to achieve anymore.

I can kind of see how they are trying to refresh the series here though, inter splicing three different character story lines, each with there specific gameplay. Leon’s story looks like it will be evolved around the Horror/surviving element, Chris Redfield’s looks like a truly terrible first person shooter, and this new cliche ‘I have the antidote in my blood’ character’s gameplay looks like some god-awful Tekken-Ongbak-style fighter.

To eventually answer your question, what possible storyline can this new Resident Evil encompass? Well, here’s my answer.

We’re stuck somewhere and we can’t get out.
    10 hours of repetitive gameplay.
    We’re out.

    Ben
