After a shaky week in which the WhatsApp Messenger app has had to stamp out various fires – including hoax chain letters and a possibly fatal app update – WhatsApp is back in the App Store.

As we reported, WhatsApp has had to combat a couple of security issues and faux messages of late. Certain nefarious types were demanding that users forward specific messages on to all of their contacts lest their user account be permanently closed.

Then the app was pulled from the App Store, in what many thought was a move by Apple as a security measure. The app’s return – version 2.6.9 – states that it’s added various ‘performance and crashfixes,’ which puts any such fears to rest.

Whatever the case, WhatsApp is now back up and available to download or update on all compatible iOS devices. You can get it by scanning the QR code below:

This article promised in a teaser link to tell you what happened and why the app is now available again in the store, but all they did was give generalities-/”there was a problem and now it’s fixed.” excuse me, but people might like to know just how the security issues were fixed. Is there encryption actually used now? I’m not ready to trust this app.

  • Bikkies

Because if data are still not encrypted, even if I always use only secure networks, the friends with whom I communicate may not be so careful
