iPhone (and now Android) smash hit Temple Run, which puts you in the never-tiring running shoes of an Indiana Jones-style explorer, has passed the 20 million download mark, meaning it’s sold more copies than any game on the PS3 or Xbox 360.

In the game your mission is to run away from a pack of demonic apes, collecting coins, jumping over obstacles and generally trying to not get dead. Simple stuff, but the implementation of it is maddeningly addictive and has seen Temple Run achieve huge success for its husband and wife developer team Imangi.

Has OnLive been rejected by Apple forever?

The really interesting thing about those sales figures is how it compares to console sales. Temple Run smashes anything on either the PS3 or the Xbox 360 by a big margin: between those consoles, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has sold 16.8 million copies, 12 million of which on the Xbox 360.

The highest selling game on the PS3, meanwhile, is Gran Turismo 5 and that’s only managed 7.5 million.

It’s at this stage that you’ll be wanting to draw our attention to the price difference between Temple Run and Call of Duty, and you’d be right that it’s a big factor; TR is free. But even with that factored in it’s still another huge stat for mobile gaming. Oh, and in case you were wondering, had Temple Run charged 69p its creators would have earned £8,400,000 just from sales.

fuckin retarded. if mw3 was free it’d be at 60+ million. and if it was completely switched, mw3 free and TR oh lets say 5 bucks, then it’d be 60 million vs. 2 or 3 million maybe.

stop trying to make a point that isnt even there. “oh simple phone app game outsells MOST POPULAR multiplat game of this console generation”. how the FUCK did it even “SELL” more copies if there isnt even a PRICE on it?

    bad journalism.

.99 cent app vs a $60 console video game? Useless post, and it’s not even out for Android yet.
