How do you avoid the wrath of Apple and its plethora of high-priced lawyers? You design a phone so madly different to anything that’s gone before it. That’s exactly what designer Sang-hoon Lee has doe with this concept, the Heart Beat Phone.
The idea is simple enough, even if the technology behind it is a little far-fetched. The handset is meant to resemble a human heart, and is built to inflate and swell depending on what’s happening onscreen.

For instance, if you get a call, the middle of the Heart Beat Phone will expand with a picture of the caller. To answer it you have to sort of ‘pop’ the bubbled area. Notifications are a similar deal: if you’ve got unread Twitter or Facebook activity the handset will expand in your pocket.
It’s certainly a novel new interpretation of the modern mobile phone – one that we’ve never seen before. Goog luck trying to get a protective case for a phone that keeps expanding. Let’s see Apple try and sue anyone for this…
