Android 15, iPhone love. Sega has just announced that its flagship sports title Virtua Tennis will be heading to Android, with a first preview next week at CES in Las Vegas. It’s been designed with the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play’s controls in mind, and been optimized for phones with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, typically used by both Sony Ericsson and HTC.
The announcement, though brief, is interesting for two reasons. Firstly, one of Sega’s (few) console crown jewels is coming to smartphones, and secondly, that Sega has seen fit to develop the game for Android first, and not iOS. Despite Android’s huge market share, that’s still a rare occurrence with high profile titles. We should get more details at the world’s biggest gadget expo next week.
