An untethered iPhone 4S jailbreak that Joe Public can make use of will be released next week according to a top iPhone hacker working on the project. iPhone 4S owners, your wait is nearly at an end – and iPad 2 owners will benefit too.
According to a recent tweet from coder pod2G, he’s made a breakthrough with an iPhone 4S jailbreak, meaning that “we could expect a release in a week.” The jailbreak, which lets you install apps not approved by Apple, will work for devices running Apple’s dual-core A5 processor, meaning that an iPad 2 jailbreak should hit at the same time.
While tethered jailbreaks for iOS 5 have existed for months, these are complicated and impractical, as they require your iPhone to be plugged into a computer whenever you restart it. An untethered jailbreak does not, and is a much more permanent, easy solution for more casual iPhone users.
As for iPhone 4 and original iPad owners, there’s no need to hang about: pod2g released an iOS 5 jailbreak for you at the end of December. Think of Cydia access as a late minute Christmas present.
