Apple TV fans will know that 2012 means one thing: it’s the year Apple busts out a range of its own TV sets sporting iOS-infused innards. But you might not have to wait, as a new hack to the existing Apple TV box shows…
The Apple TV hack utilises the fact that the media streamer runs a tweaked version of iOS and boasts the same A4 processor under the hood as is in the iPhone 4. A couple of app developers have turned their attentions to it and managed to get iOS apps running in full-screen resolution.

As the video below shows, apps such as Youtube, Safari, Maps and Facebook run fairly seamlessly on the big screen, and are quite able to talk to both a keyboard and Magic Trackpad.
The hack requires a jailbroken Apple TV and is still in its early stages, but the fact that it works, and works in full resolution, suggests one way that Apple could go about upping the ante with its own-brand TVs. Could it be as simple as just upscaling iOS apps? It’s definitely possible:
