If your day couldn’t get any worse, it’s time to regale yourself in the misery of others. FML lets people post their depressing daily stories like Facebook updates, if Facebook were anonymous and completely soul-destroying.

4. WonderHowTo

If you’ve got learning a new skill on your list of New Years’ resolutions, you need this website in your life. Pretty much everything a human could do is in there, all with detailed instructions. Think fire breathing could be your thing? No worries.

5. Miniclip

Games, and lots of ‘em. Miniclip is the web’s biggest vestibule for free online games is stocked with enough in the way of addicting titles to keep you going through all of 2012 and beyond.

6. Lamebook

One thing Facebook’s done over the past few years is make it increasingly evident that the majority of the world’s humans are completely insane. Lamebook goes one further – filtering out the sensible status’ to leave you with just the social network’s most head-scratching updates.

7. Vimeo

Get yourself off YouTube – there’s only so many videos of kittens your fragile mind can take. Vimeo represents the more intellectual side of the web’s videos, proffering a range of some of the finest in independently made short films.

8. Snopes

Did one of the munchkins really kill himself on the Wizard of Oz set? Does Coca Cola’s logo really represent a man smoking crack? Snopes is a tireless library of the world’s best urban legends and myths, categorised into true, false or… Well, Nobody knows.

How to lose hours of your life and unleash your artistic side in one foul swoop? Get into the mesmerising world of online memes. Choose your picture from the meme stock and plaster your funny all over it. Then share and bask in the LOLZ.

10. Reddit

If you don’t know about Reddit, you should. It’s the best online resource for funny pictures, interesting user-generated content, links, videos and memes. Be very wary: once you’re in, you’re hooked forever.
