Sources close to Apple have revealed that the company is looking into making the iPod wearable in the near future, reveals the New York Times’ Nick Bilton.

The news comes as part of a blog posting on the future of mobile computing, in which Bilton suggests that Google’s X Labs are already looking into wearable devices that talk to your smartphone, similar to Sony Ericsson’s LiveView.

But it’s the Apple rumour that’s got us excited. Bilton’s source is someone who’s apparently close Apple’s plans. They claim that a “very small group of Apple employees” are looking into “curved-glass iPod that would wrap around the wrist.”

This curvy, wrist-bound device would apparently be voice-activated through Siri and presumably play music via Bluetooth earphones. It certainly makes sense: Apple’s seen huge success with the current generation of Apple iPod Nano, which has built-in clock faces to encourage owners to wear it as a watch.

Apple: The most innovative company in the industry

Similarly, with devices like LiveView and Motorola’s MOTOACTV, there’s definitely space for mobile devices to become increasingly wearable. If anyone’s looking into such Sci-Fi gear, it’ll be Apple.
