Fans of slightly-too-expensive Android tablets, rejoice! The ASUS Eee Transformer Prime is nearly here. The tablet-cum-notebook won’t actually ship until January, but Asus has opened up pre-orders today if you have an extra £500 kicking around this close to Christmas.
OK, we are kidding a bit about the overpriced thing. The original Eee Pad Transformer was by far the best of the first-generation Android tablets and the Transformer Prime looks even better. The Prime’s big selling point is its unique keyboard add-on that not only transforms (do you see what they did there?) the tablet into a notebook, but also boosts its 12 hour battery life by an extra 6 hours.
The new Transformer Prime is the first quad-core tablet, something we haven’t really been convinced by on a phone but which makes a lot of sense at this form factor.
If you want one, you can lay down £499 which will get you a 32GB model with 1GB RAM and teh quad core NVIDIA Tegra 3 CPU. It ships with Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) but will receive a portion of Ice Cream Sandwich shortly after launch.
Will you be shelling out for the Transformer Prime or waiting for the sales? Let us know in the comments.
