We don’t often write about speakers on ElectricPig because, frankly, they’re much of a muchness. The HiWave Bluetooth wireless speaker is the exception, thanks to a pretty revolutionary power-friendly tech.

The speaker, which will talk to your phone, tablet or PC wirelessly, takes a variety of battery types for a variety of different results – all of which far outstrip the competition. A single AA will power it for 40 solid hours.

Why Bluetooth 3.0 is a game-changer

Stick a D battery in the HiWave speakers, though, and you’ll get a monstrous 145 hours out of it, which under normal use is about 4-6 months. That mega battery life is due to a special HiWave HIAS2001 amplifier chip, which uses about a 20th of the power of normal speakers.

The HiWave Bluetooth speaker is expected to go on sale in the second quarter of 2012, so you’ve got plenty of time to stock up on batteries.
