We knew Blinkbox, the online movie streaming service, was headed to the Xbox 360 shortly after its latest dashboard update, and right on cue, it has. There’s an extra surprise in tow though: there’s a Blinkbox iPad app now too.
As expected, Blinkbox for Xbox 360 serves up a la carte movies and even works with Kinect and Bing voice search: it’s nice to see Microsoft letting a direct rival to its Zune rental service onto its set top box. Blinkbox is available for PS3, but users have to use the web browser to load it up: on Xbox, it’s built right in.

The Blinkbox iPad app meanwhile, which appears to have quietly crept onto the iTunes App Store last week, is a free viewer that gets around Apple’s in-app payment demands by only letting you watch previously purchased movies. These are streamed over Wi-Fi so you can’t download them for offline viewing.
