Want the ‘Facebook Timeline’ new look profile page? No problem… If you live in New Zealand. The social network is using the country as a testing ground for the redesign, which has gone live there today in a 7-day trial.

The idea is that Facebook users in New Zealand will be presented with a private version of the Timeline today, which they can tinker with for a week, or publish at any time between now and then. After the 7 day trial, Facebook Timeline will go live for everyone there.

“We announced Timeline in September and made it available to developers building apps on our platform,” said Facebook on its blog. “Since then, over a million people have signed up for the developer beta to access Timeline.”

Facebook Timeline’s big missing feature

“The feedback we’ve received so far has been invaluable. Starting today, we are making Timeline more widely available as we measure speed and other types of performance. We’ll begin by making it available to people in New Zealand and then roll it out more broadly in the near future.”

Up until now, only people with a Facebook developer account have been able to access the redesigned profile page. Facebook reportedly tested the ‘Questions’ poll tool in New Zealand before launching elsewhere, due to it’s use of English as the main language and it’s relatively low level of attachment to the rest of the world (sorry, but it’s true).

Assuming Facebook Timeline doesn’t melt New Zealand, you can expect to see it land in the UK soon.

Wow it seemed like this wasn’t going to happen. Finally they started rolling it out.
