The HCI RoomMate TV spells the days of having to listen to a fuzzy, distant radio or stare blankly at Countdown in your hospital bed could be over; it’s an Android-powered beast, and it could be coming to a hospital near you, NHS-money permitting.

The Roommate boasts 160GB of storage for downloading and viewing movies, but also has full web browsing thanks to its Android underbelly and built in WiFi. HCI’s CEO Rick Pratt reckons it’s “truly the most advanced, most complete, hospital-grade television on the planet.”

But does it run the 100 best Android apps?

Other features that really blow normal hospital luxuries out of the water include a pillow-mounted headphone jack, select Android apps, a range of games and music or video playback. They’re available in 22, 26, 32 or a massive 42-inch display sizes.

When will they be coming to your nearest recovery room? That probably depends on when the recession ends.
