Sony Ericsson’s Xperia PLAY, otherwise known as the Playstation Phone, has won itself exclusive rights to FIFA 12 on Android today, as the game’s launched for free on the sliding handset. After a drastic PAYG price-drop, is it a desperate bid to boost handset sales?

FIFA 12 coming to Android is big news, so it seems odd to us that it’s exclusively snagged on the Xperia PLAY, a device that’s fallen way short of the mark in terms of sales. The game will, in fact, be coming to the full range of Sony Ericsson Xperia handsets in time, but this extra window of exclusivity smells a bit like ‘one last push’.

We’ve asked how long the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY will retain the title of FIFA 12’s only Android phone, but were told that there aren’t any specifics at the moment – likewise for whether the game will eventually make its way onto Android handsets from other manufacturers. Word from a few months back pointed to a February 21st general Android release.

Either way, if you’ve got a Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY then let us know if you’re going to take up the offer of free FIFA, and how FIFA 12 translates to the Playstation-buttoned Android phone.
