It’s still more than six weeks to Christmas, but Modern Warfare 3, which goes on sale today, is looking so likely to outsell all comers that one bookie is already paying out. Paddy Power is already settling bets on Modern Warfare 3 as odds reached an absurdly definitely-happening 1/16, and is only offering 5/6 odds that it will go on to become the best selling video game of all time.

It’s not often that a delayed gadget is a cause for celebration. But the emerging news that Asus is holding back its highly coveted Eee Pad Transformer Prime in order to load it up with Android Ice Cream Sandwich is more than welcome. The plan was to release the device on 9 November, but this move clearly proves that the Taiwanese giant wants to get things right the minute the tablet lands.

It all means that consumers will get the perfect experience the minute they get their hands on the device, rather than having to sit tight and use an old build of Android while they wait for an update. When it comes to Android, Asus, it seems, just gets it.

It’s the news Android fans have been waiting for for almost a month. HTC has finally shown its cards about which of its Google-backed blowers will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich and when. On the face of it, the news is pretty good. The HTC Sensation, Sensation XE, Sensation XL and Evo 3D are all being primed for an update some time in ‘early 2012’.

But look closer at HTC’s official statement and it’s hard not to be worried. There’s no word on when the Desire S, Desire and Wildfire S will be getting in on the action. Sure HTC might be ‘continuing to assess’ its products when it comes to Android Ice Cream Sandwich. But be under no illusions: this just proves that ICS will not solve Android’s fragmentation problems.

The iPhone jailbreak is an eternal game of whack-a-mole: the ever enterprising hackers find a way to bust open iOS, then for a few short months or days, you can have the very latest version of iOS without the restrictions, before Apple brings the hammer down and patches it, leaving you behind the curve and waiting once more.

It’s a race I’m growing tired of: I never thought I’d say this, but why can’t Apple copy Microsoft, just this once?
