Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 7 demo is an interactive treat, designed specifically to work on an iPhone, it seems. Want to take it for a test drive? You’ll be met with whizzy animations, and an extremely close approximation of the Windows Phone 7 experience on your very own iPhone. What do you reckon? Smart marketing move? Enough to make you take the plunge into Microsoft’s OS?

    If you are ditching an iPhone, are you supposed to be UPGRADING to an mid-high end Android, rather than DOWNGRADING to a Windows Phone??

      How is it downgradig. WP7 OS is faster, more untuitive and lookes better. so please explain how it is downgrading. the only thing wp7 is lacking is apps but who is goig to use over 200 thousand apps

        Sounds like you wasted money on one and are desperate to try and convince yourself its not a dud.
        I would love to hear how its better looking when android can be set to look however you want it to look, even like wp7 (why anyone would want ugly kiddie blocks as a ui is anyone’s guess)
        And its not faster either. Microsoft are the kings of bloatware. Wp7 is no different.

            Errm, surely Apple, Microsoft and Amazon are the ones trying to limit consumers choice by locking consumers into walled gardens?

            Choice is being able to run what apps you want on what phone you want
            Choice is being able to buy your ebooks from wherever you want at the best prices.
            Choice is about being able to buy your music from whereever you want, in the format you want.

            Clearly you don’t “get it”.   However don’t be too upset, anyone that’s thrown away choice by buying Apple/Amazon/Microsoft products also don’t “get it” (until it’s way to late, and they are locked in so deeply moving is not an option).

    Smart marketing move but poor execution, it will have little to no impact at all. They’re targeting phones that are all about apps with a (in my opinion) rubbish looking OS that has hardly any dev support at all in comparison. Yes there are some flashy animations etc but they are lacking two of the fundamental components that draw people to the iPhone: An Apple logo and a plethora of good quality Apps.

    The only way that WP7 is going to take off is to be cheap, they need to make it cheap enough that people are willing to risk it and get it into the hands of joe bloggs public so that it can start to build a positive word of mouth. That said, i don’t think the current hardware/software is going to do that and I can’t see any other manufacturer taking that risk when they can simply carry on building on their current Android success with very little risk at all.As for the comment that WP7 is faster? Well i would disagree completely having used the Nokia Lumia quite extensively, my Sensation feels much quicker. Even my Desire before it felt quicker and that’s over 2 years old!
