Still gutted that the much-hyped iPhone 5 failed to materialise in all its large screen, tapered design glory? Well, we’ve got some good news. The fabled next-gen iPhone has been discovered in some new iOS 5.1 source code, suggesting it will indeed be called the iPhone 5 when it lands at some point in 2012. Read on for all the details.
Dubbed iPhone 5,1, the new Apple handset isn’t detailed in the iOS 5 code, which is hardly surprising. But this is the first time the device has ever been mentioned by Cupertino. The code name points to the blower actually being called the iPhone 5 on release.
Hopefully, this’ll be the mobile that Apple fans the world over have been waiting for. Talk is already emerging of Sony and Hitachi shipping 4-inch screens for the new iPhone, while rumours are rife that it’ll feature an all metal, tapered design.
Whether this early rumour mongering points to an early 2012 release date remains moot. But it’s certainly telling that gossip about the iPhone 5 has sparked up so soon after the iPhone 4S’s release. Could we see it on shelves earlier than autumn 2012? Let us know what you think in the comments.
