4-inch iPhone screens are reported to have started shipping, with both Sony and Hitachi making the beefed up screens for Apple. Sadly though, there’s no word on when, or if, these screens will land on an iPhone near you? Read on for all the details.

Talk of a 4-inch iPhone screen has been rampant ever since the first iPhone 5 rumours emerged. While the iPhone 4S failed to come loaded with such a capacious panel, it’s becoming clear that Apple is at least investigating plans for a larger screen handset.

An “Asian source” has told Macotakara that as well as this 4-inch screen, Sony and Hitachi have also shipped screens for the iPad 3. Unfortunately, it’s not clear whether these are Retina Displays are similar to the current iPad 2 screens.

With the Samsung Galaxy Prime and HTC Sensation both rocking larger screens, a shift towards a bigger one on the iPhone seems inevitable. Would you be happy to see one? Or are you doing just fine with the 3.5-inch effort? Tell us down below in the comments.

I’m happy with my 3.5 inch screen, I’ve seen and used the Galaxy S II and its screen is far too large. If you want a bigger screen then buy yourself a tablet. The iPhone fits nicely in the hand, the Galaxy S II is far too large. I would be disappointed to see Apple follow the big screen trend.

This is the standard line whilst Apple don’t have a 3.5in display.  When they do, all the idiotic fanboys like yourself will be triumphing how great it is, and how everyone should throw their 4s in the bin and buy another iPhone…

LOL, iPhone 4s soon to be obsolete…

Perhaps Apple took notice of the Galaxy S2 advert where iPhones owners were complaining that “how will people know I have upgraded..”   (clue is, they don’t care, only you care).
