Want Sky TV on your PS3? The wait is over. Sony has struck up a deal with Sky TV in the UK to bring some of its biggest shows to the Playstation Store Video Store. It’s a big deal for PS3 owners, who can now buy individual episodes in SD or HD from a fairly decent line-up.

The shows on offer include Dollhouse, 24, Breaking Bad, Arrested Development and South Park. Prices are between £1.49 and £2.49, with the more expensive downloads offering HD. There’s no option to buy an entire series or to rent or pay a scubscription, but it’s still a step in the right direction.

The integration of Sky TV on Xbox 360 has been a point of contention between the two consoles up until now, so it’s good to see that Sony is trying to fill in some of the gaps with Sky’s best content. Sky TV offering on PS3 service is available now through PSN. Will you be using it?

The BIG difference seems to be that on the XBox, you need both an Xbox Live Gold Subscription AND a Sky Subscription.
On PS3 you don’t need either, you just pay for what you want…   I just wish sites like this would highlight how badly Xbox owners are getting double-screwed over, rather than simply encouraging Microsoft and Sky to continue to rip them off.

I don’t like the Gold subscription model, but it isn’t all bad if you’re a Sky subscriber already. It’s not really apples with apples, it’s subscription streaming versus a la carte. Spotify vs iTunes purchases. Although I’ve always wondered why you’d need it on Xbox if you already had a dish. Bit silly.

Its not really Sky TV on your PS3 it’s just some Sky Shows available on the store for download.

    I hate misleading headlines.

you can watch live sky tv on the Xbox version as well as on-demand downloads. I’d say that’s a better deal for what you’re paying.

but hey its always good to have a platform agnostic service.

Indeed! It’s not really apples with apples: one is subscription, the other is a la carte. Spotify vs iTunes downloads, as it were.

The model is wrong. If it was free with advertising people might use it.
