Sony’s PS Vita is set to land on the 17th of December in ints native Japan, which is why the first TV ad has already hit screens. Sony’s always had an interesting take on marketing when it comes to Playstation products, but this one kind of defies explanation.

The original Playstation ads were iconic for being a little bit odd. More recently, the ads for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play saw some Android-related macabre marketing filter onto YouTube, but everything that’s gone prior to the Japanese PS Vita ad has at least made some sort of sense.

There’s a chap on a bike, pedalling frantically down the road. Cut to the scenery shifting about, the release date, a big PS Vita logo and the phrase “The future of games will change.” And that’s it. 15 seconds of unrelated imagery and it’s all over. Does it make you want to buy a handheld games console? No, us neither.
