Got a Nexus S? Jonesing for some Android Ice Cream Sandwich action, but don’t fancy stumping up for the new Galaxy Nexus? Well, you’re in luck. Crafty hackers have managed to get the latest version of the Big G’s mobile OS working on last year’s ‘pure Google’ phone and you can give it a whirl right now. Read on to find out how.

To snag this early build of Ice Cream Sandwich for your Nexus S, you’ll need to head over to the XDA developers’ site and download the correct version, depending on whether you’re touting a regular or 4G edition of the handset.

While this does come with risks and is only recommended for experienced users, it does at least offer most of the new functionality, with only a few glitches. The developer behind this workaround says only the camcorder and USB support are struggling, although Wi-Fi will only work after you’ve downloaded a separate patch.

It might not be the easiest way to get Ice Cream Sandwich on your phone, but it at least means you can give the new OS a go before Google officially rolls it out over the coming weeks.
