The Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phone handset went on sale in the UK this week, enjoying life as the most pre-ordered Nokia device in history. Anyone who picked up the already sterling handset will now be pleased to hear that an update is coming soon from Nokia to improve the battery life.

The Nokia Lumia 800 update is designed to fix some very minor bugs with the battery, which should mean a longer spell of life, but will also come bundled with Microsoft’s ‘Build 7740’ update.

That particular update is designed to fix problems with Microsoft Exchange server and the voicemail feature. Again, these are minor quibbles, but the Nokia Lumia 800 will be happy to swallow them up when it becomes available. It’s currently undergoing testing with network carriers.

Interestingly, WinRumors reported that their Nokia Lumia 800 had received the update directly from Nokia along with a random selection of bloatware: apps from ‘British Airways, eBay, Ministry of Sound, Sky News and TripAdvisor’ had suddenly been baked into the handset ROM. What’s Nokia up to? Let us know in the comments section below.

wp7 has failed so badly, for three years ago wp has got a market share of 5% now the market share is under 1% 6.5 has failed Kin has  failed wp7 has failed. Samsungs own OS Bada Outsells wp7. I think with no games and no apps its hard to compete.

No Lte or 4G or Dual core. wp7 is outdated loosers OS

3 years ago, WP7 wasn’t even released, so 5% was pretty good for that! It only came out at the end of 2010, that’s last year.

You sir are an idiot windows phone is not windows mobile for a start. Second there is more than 40,000 apps and thats after about 6000 are removed by MS due to failing the rules and demos not counting as an extra app like they do in ion and android meaning you could add about an extra 20,000 to that number.
Outdated omg people like  grate me. You clearly have not spent any time on the os if any at all. Hubs is far beyond anyting offered by android or ios it has the fastest lock screen to picture camera on the market, integrated office 360 skydrive and sharepoint, xbox live, zune the list goes on. The os does not need duel core and will support it when it can implement it better and cost effective without a cost to the battery. 4g will be in us nokia models as well as ones already out by htc so that argument is outdated and lte is a niche idea that is a waste of time until its wider use and will be in new nokias anyway. Plus if your going into a hardware battle then you need to take a look at the lumia. Its screen is thebest in the market in terms of quality maybe not size plus its polycarbonate body results in a solid device that beats the nuts out of any metal phone in terms of antenna performance. There is loads of other examples of why its more advanced but your small mind wont comprehend them.

Your points are all very valid, but can you please make them without resorting to personal insults? Everyone is entitled to an opinion, there’s no empirical means of ranking smartphone platforms.

Thanks! It’s very easy to get carried away with the perceived anonymity of the internet. Rise above it, and debate, not insult, we say. But yes, I’m a Windows Phone phan as well.

Got the phone on the 16th when it came out in my Vodafone store. So far, love it BUT the battery has been terrible!! It’s died on me every day before I got home from work and thats with minimal usages (a few mins of talk time, no apps or games running)… I really really home this update will sort this out as I was expecting at least a couple of days of charge with the sort of usage I do.

I have had this update ie 7740, I had it on the 17th but it does not seem to have had an effect on the battery and i do not have any of these apps stated. I am wondering if some update ie for other wp7 devices came out to some nokia lumias when we are expecting additional parts. does anybody have a full os version number of the updated software?

That is why I didn’t get the Nokia Lumia 800, instead got a Nokia N9 and that battery life is even better! 2-3 days with light usage texting, music (earphones) about 2 hours a day. Facebook few times during the day and brightness set on full.

BTW WP7 is limited. MeeGo just demolishes WP7 and Android, iOS.

While I’m gutted Nokia’s washed its hands of MeeGo, it’s sadly hard to recommend something that won’t be supported down the line.

On my working desk Lumia 800 and Nokia N9 run on same conditions. Lumia – 27 hours, N9 – more than 3 days. It is about WP software. Hope for soon firmware upgrade. :-(
