The iPad 3 rumour mill is cranking itself up, with yet more talk about Apple’s plans for its next-gen tablet. This morning, word has emerged that Cupertino is in the process of ordering millions of displays for the new slate, with production beginning in earnest in January, ahead of the now traditional spring iPad release date.
The gossip comes directly from sources close to suppliers, with Sharp, Samsung and LG all making the screens. A million were shipped in October, with twice that number expected to be sent out to assembly lines in November.
That means the iPad 3 will begin its journey towards shelves in January, say the insiders, with Foxconn starting to assemble the new tabs at the start of the new year. It all means Apple fanatics should get their mitts on the device at some point in April 2012.
What’s more suppliers have also suggested the much-mooted 7.85-inch iPad Mini is also being worked on, although it remains unclear whether this pared down gadget will ever see the light of day.
