Yahoo-Nokia-Snake-3

The classic Nokia Snake game lives on! If you’ve been on MSN’s homepage today and been a bit distracted by all the bright colours to the right of the page, you’re not alone. To celebrate the launch of the Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phone smartphone, the Finnish giant is offering web surfers the chance to play the classic snake game online for free.

It’s a move reminiscent of Google’s Pacman takeover from last year, and will be a nice time-waster for anyone who remembers the heyday of the 2D title on older Nokia handsets. The Nokia Snake game, which in this iteration is made up of the coloured tiles found on the Windows Phone 7 UI, is available to play on MSN today, Yahoo from tomorrow and will be on The Sun’s website on November 21st.

Is this sudden nod to an old classic a clue that Nokia might be planning to bring Snake back to its mobile phones? Apparently not, according to Nokia’s follow up announcement. It certainly suggests that the company is aware of its reputation and memorable assets, though. Either way, if you’ve got five minutes then give it a go. Be warned, though: it’s impossibly difficult right from the off.
