Ultrabooks have been back in the headlines in the past few days, with sluggish sales and talk of 2012 price drops dominating. But now HP has rocked up with its own effort, the Folio 13. And chances are this machine, with its relatively low price tag and impressive spec sheet, could jump start the entire slimline PC category. Read on for all the details.
The HP Folio 13 doesn’t have the design chops of Asus’s ZenBook or Acer’s S3, but it does still offer stacks of decent features inside an 18mm frame. There’s 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD on board the basic model, making it more than capable of stashing hefty files and working at a decent lick.
However, HP has managed to keep costs down by including a slower Intel Core i3 chip on its entry-level model. You get a Core i5 in the equivalent MacBook Air.
We’re willing to compromise though, seeing as the US price has been revealed at just $899 (£570). Although UK plans haven’t been revealed yet, anything under £899 would make the HP Folio 13 the cheapest ultrabook on these shores, and a far more enticing prospect than its sleeker-looking rivals too.
