The Amazon Kindle Fire hasn’t even been given a UK release date yet, and our US gadget-loving brethren don’t get their hands on it until tomorrow. But news has emerged from the Far East of plans for a follow-up. Read on to see just what’s planned for the Amazon Kindle Fire 2.

It seems Taiwan’s Quanta Computer has landed the order to produce the Amazon Kindle Fire 2, according to a report in Apple Daily. The new version of the bargain bucket tablet will be released in the second quarter of next year, which starts in April.

Sadly, specs and price plans remain thin on the ground, but perhaps the Kindle Fire 2 will come with a skinned version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Either way, you can expect it to offer more grunt, but with the same peerless access to Amazon’s myriad services.

    I will be grabbing the Kindle Fire as soon as its out in the UK! I won’t be waiting for the upgraded version, I’m perfectly sure that the first version will be plenty good enough for me and the upgrade cannot be much better as the original won’t have been out long enough for any major improvements to be identified and sorted out! Hoping the UK release will be soon!!…

    All the early reviews of the current fire ’complain’ of having to constantly zoom in to read mags etc.. also games do not seem to be fitting as well as expected on the 7inch screen  clearly this smacks of the whole design being really for a larger screen ( version 2?) also there is no mic and with Amazon having recently aquiring YAP for voice recognition i would expect this also would  be addressed in version 2. The current fire does not really live up to the early hype of producing an ‘ipad beater’, however the release of version 2 has time to address the current shortcomings plus the opportunity to incorporate late breaking features such as maybe tegra 3 and ice cream sandwich albeit at a higher price point which would be expected if it really wanted to go head to head with apple.I think i’ll wait and see what happens in the new year ( not that i have much choice given that i’m in the uk.) Maybe our introduction to the fire will be version 2.

    I cant wait for the Kindle fire to come over to UK. I may wait fir the fire 2 as it be a big birthday next Feb. i wait and get the Kindle fire 2. I have a Sony 300 ereader at mo, its good but screen small at only 5″. as im getting on now big 50 soon i wait for bigger screen version.
