Spotify’s much-anticipated Windows Phone app has finally landed this morning. The new Microsoft add-on packs in the same streaming smarts associated with the Swedish music fanatics’ iOS, Android and BlackBerry apps and means every major smartphone platform is now catered for by Spotify. But for the Big M, it spells the end for its Zune Pass Subscription service.
Those packing a Windows Phone can now stream tunes over 3G and sync offline playlists for listening without a Wi-Fi or mobile connection, as well as have all tracks and playlists show up immediately on a Windows Phone handset when they add new them on their PC.
The design looks whip smart too and certainly makes the somewhat tired Spotify iOS app look dated by comparison. There is, of course, one major snag: you need a £9.99 per month premium account to get the app working. That’s a quid more than Microsoft’s own Zune Music Pass, but let’s face it, that service lacks any of the integrated savviness you find with Spotify’s mobile offerings.
We’ve just given it a whirl on the Mango powered Radar, and it’s sensational: cover art works well with the Metro UI, you can tweet playlists from the app if you’re so inclined, and track controls work from the lockscreen as you’d expect. In other words, if you’re a Spotify fan and a Windows Phone owner, it’s a no brainer.
